CRESWELL — A celebration of life will be held at 1 p.m. Friday, Aug. 17, at Buell Funeral Chapel in Springfield for Sid Cooke Sr. of Creswell, who died Aug. 7 of age-related causes. He was 94. A reception will follow.
He was born July 5, 1918, in Cranford, N.J., to Sidney and Viola Thygeson Cooke. He married Georgia Lytle on July 5, 1946, in Greenleaf. She died March 6, 1995. He served in the Army from August 1943 through May 1945 and was awarded the Purple Heart. He worked at the Ford dealership in Cottage Grove for 40 years as the used car reconditioning foreman.
Survivors include a son, Sid Jr. of Creswell; two daughters, Nancy Cooke of Eugene and Lorraine Jahnsen of Cottage Grove; three sisters, Vivian Waggoner and Elaine Robertson, both of Creswell, and Janet Marlatt of Minden, Neb.; three grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren. A son, John, died Dec. 1, 2009.
