PHILOPANT, James W. (Age 55)
Jim Philopant died peacefully at home on November 20, 2005 with his wife and daughter at his side after a noble four-year battle with cancer. He attended Browne Elementary and Glover Junior High, and graduated from Shadle Park High School in 1968, where he lettered in football and was voted “Best All-Around Boy”. Jim attended Washington State University, where he was a member of the Sigma Nu Fraternity, and received dual degrees in Business Administration and Accounting. He married Molly Malone on August 21, 1976.
Jim was employed by LeMaster & Daniels for nearly 30 years, and was selected to be a firm member (partner) in 1988 and Chief Financial Officer in 1999. He was a member of the Washington Society of Certified Public Accountants and the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants since 1976, serving as WSCPA’s Spokane Chapter President in 1992. Jim was also involved with various civic and charitable organizations. He served as Treasurer for WAMPUM from 1991-1999. Jim was also active in the Rotary Club of Spokane Valley for many years, again serving as Treasurer for that organization. In 2004 Jim was a founding board member of the Cancer Care Northwest Foundation and served as the Foundation’s Treasurer until his death.
Jim was an avid bicycle rider and spent many hours biking to Coeur d’Alene, Cheney, or wherever his spirit took him on a warm summer day. He also enjoyed following sports teams at WSU and St. George’s School. He was a dedicated father, husband, and son. Family, friends, co-workers, clients and professional colleagues will remember Jim for his warm smile, kind heart, generous spirit, professional integrity and his sense of humor. Jim is survived by his wife of nearly 30 years, Molly; daughter, Kelly; parents,
Virgil and Kathryn Philopant; sister and brother-in-law, Margaret and Dave Heinze, all from Spokane; and nephew Scott Heinze of Tacoma, WA; as well as many extended family members.
The family wishes to express their appreciation to all of Jim’s healthcare providers and caregivers, especially those at Cancer Care Northwest and Hospice of Spokane.
Memorial Services will be held on Tuesday, November 29, 2005 at 3:30 p.m. at Hamblen Park Presbyterian Church (4102 S. Crestline St.) followed by a reception at Manito Golf & Country Club (5303 S. Hatch Road).
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to either the “Jim Philopant Quality of Life Enhancement Program” at Cancer Care Northwest Foundation (Attn: Melanie Frederick, 601 S.
